After graduating in architecture from the Higher Technical School of Architecture of Barcelona (UPC), he completed his training through stays and trips in various countries to learn first-hand about the work of the great authors of contemporary and historical architecture. In his itinerary through the USA and in the studies carried out in
NYC and Chicago, he was able to visit and analyze the work of Wright, Mies, Khan and Breuer. In England, he took English landscaping courses. And in Italy, he grew rich from the villas and gardens in the Veneto and Tuscany. Currently, he continues to travel continuously to discover buildings and artistic treasures that later inspire his work.

“You have to go out and look. Know first-hand the work of the greats. It is very good to see the buildings in the photographs, but it is when you are in the space that you understand what the architect wanted to convey, what he wanted to achieve”.

In 2003 he established his own architecture studio in Palma de Mallorca and at the same time began to collaborate professionally with his father, the long-standing architect Luís Garcia-Ruiz . During these years, Antonio Garcia-Ruiz has been able to develop his own style that is characterized by wide and diaphanous spaces, simple plans of elegant purity, light as a design material and the balance between landscape and architecture. The houses he designs maintain a warmth that makes them especially welcoming and habitable for their inhabitants. The materials used play an essential role for the comfort of each project. Sensitivity to vegetation and the vital role played by gardens can also be appreciated in its architecture.

“In places like the Balearic Islands and in the Mediterranean in general, the climate conditions us a lot. For this, the play offered by blinds, pergolas, patios is important... Gardens play a vital role in the construction of panoramic views, as well as the trees that make a given view unique”.

Among his most recognized works are the Infinity House and the Maktoub House -both in Port d'Andratx-, the Villa s'Estremera in Bunyola, the Akama House in Puerto Adriano or the Mortixt House in Son Vida. For Antonio García-Ruiz, architecture must encompass all the aspects involved in each project, from the gardens to the details of the furniture. According to his point of view, the architect must have a complete vision of the project in which he works, be it a building, an urban intervention or an object, so that it encompasses all possible perspectives, both artistic and functional. The space must adapt to the needs and characteristics of its users and for this reason, it considers that a direct relationship with the client is essential.

"The more a client gets involved in a project, the easier it is to reach that point where the professional's vision coincides with the tastes, desires and needs of the people for whom the space is designed."
